Framed by artists
A frame should enhance the art, never overpower it
Martin Osner has framed for over thirty years, first alongside his photography studio and now in the workshop inside Osner Gallery. His daughter, the artist Samantha Lee Osner, works beside him. Because we make and exhibit art ourselves, we frame the way we want our own work framed: clean, simple, and built to last.
Our preferred mouldings are slim natural wood in white, black, charcoal, grey or a natural tone, stained or painted by hand to suit the piece and the room. Martin oversees every frame that leaves the workshop.
Our storyFraming styles
Quiet frames in real homes
Deep shadow floats, elevated mounts and slim surround frames. Look through the styles we are known for, then bring your piece in to try them against it.

How it works
From your wall to ours, and back
Bring it in or send a photo
Visit the workshop in Hout Bay, or WhatsApp a photo and the size to 083 472 1717 for a first idea.
Choose together
We lay mouldings, mounts and glass against the work and advise honestly on what suits it and the room.
Framed by hand
We cut, join, stain or paint and fit the frame in our workshop, with archival materials where the work needs them.
Collect, or we hang it
Collect from the gallery, or we deliver and hang it level and secure on your wall.

Local to the valley
Framing for Hout Bay and its neighbours
You should not have to drive into town to have something framed well. We are in the heart of Hout Bay, a few minutes from Llandudno, Camps Bay, Constantia and Noordhoek.
We deliver and hang framed work across these neighbourhoods, and further across Cape Town for larger projects.
What does picture framing cost?
Every frame is quoted for the work in front of us. The price depends on the size, the moulding, the mount and the glass you choose, so we would rather give you a real figure than a price list that never fits. Bring the piece in, or WhatsApp us a photo with its size, and we will come back to you with options.
Do you only frame art bought from Osner Gallery?
No. We frame whatever you bring us, whether it came from our gallery, another gallery, a trip abroad or the back of a cupboard: paintings, photographs, prints, drawings, certificates and family pictures.
Is your framing archival?
Yes, when the work needs it. We use acid free mounts and backing, archival tape to hinge limited editions and valuable prints, and UV protective glass, so paper and colour are protected for decades.
What glass can I choose?
Standard picture glass, non reflective UV museum glass for bright rooms and valuable work, and gallery quality Perspex (plexiglass) for large pieces or anything that has to travel, because it will not break in transit.
