At Osner Framing we bring over thirty years of framing to every project, from a cherished family portrait to a museum quality frame for a fine art piece. Everything is made by hand in our workshop inside Osner Gallery.

Custom picture framing

Every piece of art deserves its own frame. Choose from premium natural wood mouldings, mount boards and glazing, and we build the frame to fit the work exactly. Whether it is a family portrait or a contemporary painting, we find the balance of style and protection that lets it stand out.

Fine art and archival framing

Our archival and conservation methods use museum grade materials for valuable work that needs long term protection. Acid free mounts, conservation tape and UV resistant glazing preserve colour and paper for decades. It is the right choice for limited edition prints, watercolours and anything irreplaceable.

Canvas stretching and framing

We stretch canvases so your painting or photographic print is evenly tensioned for a flawless finish, then frame it in a floating frame or a traditional moulding for a clean, gallery quality presentation. Ideal for oil and acrylic paintings and giclée prints on canvas.

Glass options

Choose standard picture glass, non reflective UV museum glass or gallery quality Perspex. Museum glass protects work from UV damage and glare in bright rooms while keeping it crystal clear; Perspex is lighter and will not break, which makes it right for large pieces and anything that has to travel.

Mounting, mirrors and more

We mount photographs and prints flat, including vacuum mounting onto archival board, cut single and elevated mounts, and frame mirrors, certificates and heirlooms. Whether it is a family treasure or a modern piece, we make sure it looks its best.

Custom finishes and colour matching

We paint, stain and colour match mouldings by hand to suit your artwork or your interior, from a natural wood finish to a modern painted one. We also offer custom gilding. Each finish is done with care, so the frame sits in harmony with the work and the room.

Corporate and interior projects

No job is too big or too small. We frame and install for reception areas, boardrooms, hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses, and keep a consistent look across a whole building. Martin Osner and Samantha Lee Osner also offer consultation and art placement advice, whether you need one signature frame or hundreds of works installed on time and within budget.

Hanging a framed picture level on a wall

Delivery and picture hanging

We deliver and install framed work across Cape Town, most often in Hout Bay, Llandudno, Camps Bay, Constantia and Noordhoek. Every piece arrives safely and is hung level on two anchor points, with no mess and no damage to your walls.

Packing and crating

For national and international shipping we build crates and pack framed work securely, whether it is going to a gallery or a new home. Smaller works can be packed to travel with you on the plane as hand luggage.

How we build a frame

Details you will not see, and should not have to

We join corners with glue and blind screws so they stay rigid for decades. We hang on two anchor points rather than string or wire, so the frame sits flat against the wall and never leans. In bathrooms and damp rooms we seal the frame and add small spacers behind it so air can move.

Questions

Picture framing questions

Anything else, call 021 790 6494 or WhatsApp 083 472 1717.

What does picture framing cost?

Every frame is quoted for the work in front of us. The price depends on the size, the moulding, the mount and the glass you choose, so we would rather give you a real figure than a price list that never fits. Bring the piece in, or WhatsApp us a photo with its size, and we will come back to you with options.

Do you only frame art bought from Osner Gallery?

No. We frame whatever you bring us, whether it came from our gallery, another gallery, a trip abroad or the back of a cupboard: paintings, photographs, prints, drawings, certificates and family pictures.

Is your framing archival?

Yes, when the work needs it. We use acid free mounts and backing, archival tape to hinge limited editions and valuable prints, and UV protective glass, so paper and colour are protected for decades.

What glass can I choose?

Standard picture glass, non reflective UV museum glass for bright rooms and valuable work, and gallery quality Perspex (plexiglass) for large pieces or anything that has to travel, because it will not break in transit.

Can you match a frame I already have?

Usually, yes. We stain and paint natural wood mouldings by hand, so a new frame can be matched to one you already own, or to the wood and tones in a room.

Do you stretch canvases?

Yes. We stretch canvas paintings and canvas prints on wooden stretcher bars so they are evenly tensioned, then frame them in a floating frame or a traditional moulding if you like.

Will you deliver and hang the work?

Yes. We deliver and hang across Cape Town, most often in Hout Bay, Llandudno, Camps Bay, Constantia and Noordhoek. We hang on two anchor points so the frame sits flat and level, without damage to your walls.

Can you pack art for shipping or for the plane?

Yes. We build crates and pack framed work for national and international shipping, and we pack smaller works so they can travel with you as hand luggage.

Where are you and when can I come in?

In the Osner Gallery building at 14 Luisa Way, Hout Bay. Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm. We are closed on Sundays and public holidays.
