A framing workshop run by artists
Over thirty years in framing have made Osner Framing a trusted name for custom framing in Hout Bay. A love of art and a commitment to craftsmanship mean every painting, photograph and document is handled with care, and beautifully preserved and displayed.
Early beginnings
A framing business beside a photography studio
Over thirty years ago Martin Osner started a picture framing business alongside his commercial photography studio. He immersed himself in the trade, learning the products, the best supplies and the techniques that protect and show artwork well.
Moving to Cape Town
A gallery that needed better frames
In 2009 Martin moved to Cape Town and opened the Martin Osner Fine Art Gallery in Green Point. At first he relied on local framers for his exhibitions, but uneven workmanship, missed deadlines and limited styles pushed him to find his own solution.

Reopened inside Osner Gallery, Hout Bay
Determined to have the quality and design freedom he wanted, Martin reopened his framing workshop in Hout Bay, inside the Osner Gallery building. It let him oversee every detail, for his own gallery and for the other Osner gallery spaces that needed new frames for each exhibition.

Opening to the public
Framing for Hout Bay since 2021
For a time the workshop framed only for the family of galleries and a few clients. In 2021, with the workflow and skills fully refined, Martin began taking framing work from the public. Today Osner Framing works with local artists, interior designers, architects and homeowners, with a personal solution for each project.
Our aesthetic and approach
Clean, minimal, and never louder than the art
Martin's background in fine art photography, and the eye of his daughter Samantha Lee Osner, an exhibiting artist, give Osner Framing its clean, minimal style. We believe the frame should enhance the artwork, never overpower it.
So our mouldings are simple and unornamented, usually natural wood in neutral tones, white, black, charcoal or grey, stained or painted by hand for a precise match to each piece.
